Gwalior,

THE SCINDIA SCHOOL

Housed in the 300 ft. high hill fort in Gwalior, the all-boys Scindia School was established in 1897 as the Sardar’s School by Maharaja Madhavrao Jayajirao Scindia I of Gwalior to educate sons of the princedom’s nobility. Modelled on England’s best public schools, over the past century, the Scindia School has evolved into a 21st century boarding school offering a unique blend of academics, co-curricular, sports and life-skills education to its 550 students mentored by 60 well-qualified teachers. In the latest EducationWorld India School Rankings 2020-21, this class VI-XII all boys’ school is ranked #1 in India in Boys Boarding Schools category for the second time in a row. Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the school’s prominent alumni include Ameen Sayani - legendary radio artist; Lt. Gen. Samer Pal Singh Dhillon - former Deputy Chief of Army staff; Shiv Shankar Menon - Diplomat and former National Security Adviser of India; Rajendra Pawar, Chairman of NIIT; Air Vice Marshal Shouvik Roy; Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap; Bharat Patel - former Managing Director of P&G, and UK-based businessman Lord Aamir Ali Bhatia.   Located atop the magnificent Gwalior Fort it has the city below and the hills across. The ramparts of the Fort have witnessed Tantia Tope’s troops battle the British, and seen the Rani of Jhansi breathe her last in her final assault. A casual glance out of a classroom window may well find eyes rest on an exquisite sixth century temple, adorned with bas-reliefs.   Amidst such surroundings, tranquil yet with so much to tell, academics take added dimensions. Here academic striving encompasses a life-long thirst for scholarship and curiosity. The Scindia School aims to instill a progressive mind-set and nurture leaders of tomorrow, who will succeed in whatever they turn their hand to, anywhere in the world, and yet retain an unmistakable Indian ethos and sanskaar.
